Before you know it, Halloween will be here. The time for scares is in the air, and you don’t want to miss out on some of the better fear factories nearby. We compiled a list of a few popular haunts within about an hour of Sanford. If you go, let us know in the comments how badly you were spooked!

Woods of Terror

5601 N Church Street, Greensboro, NC; $25-$55 range

Billed as Greensboro’s “scariest haunted thrill park,” Woods of Terror is a haunted experience of the highest order. Located roughly an hour from Sanford, the horror is certainly worth the drive. With themed attractions ranging from Blackbeard’s Revenge to Horror Movie Classics, and from a recreation of The Purge: Anarchy to a so-called Industrial Nightmare, Woods of Terror has spooks and scares to get at the heart of everyone’s fear. But be warned: this haunt is known to be quite scary. Parental discretion is advised, and children under the age of five are not permitted.

Harvested Farm Nightmares

3175 Benson HWY 50, Garner, NC; $20

There’s no age restriction for this one, but the crew suggests participants from ages 10 and up. Located at Ken’s Produce and Garden Center, Harvested Farm Nightmares is like something out of the movies. The farm setting allows for “mongrels” to attack you from the cornfields while you weave your way through crypts, trying to avoid escaped convicts who may or may not be deranged and out for blood! Chainsaws, zombies, and winding trails await you on this haunt. Tickets cannot be purchased online and must be bought at the event, so make sure to get there early.

The Haunted Forest at Sycamore Lodge

1059 Sycamore Ln., Jackson Springs, NC

This non-profit event gives all of its profits to the Lymphoma Society, letting you feel a bit better about paying to be terrified. Listed as appropriate for ages 12 and older, The Haunted Forest at Sycamore Lodge is a guided tour through a whopping 10 spooky houses and a graveyard. The haunt is known for its set design and props, and revelers can expect delicious foods and cakes at the end of the stressful-yet-fun tour.

We hope you have a safe and scary Halloween this year! Let us know your favorite haunt moments in the comments below. For any other concerns, contact us here.
