Who doesn’t love an outdoor festival? They’re a great opportunity to experience delicious food, new art, and of course, live music. Sanford, North Carolina’s central location offers easy access to some of the best festivals in the region! Here are some of the most fun festivals near Sanford.

Though it began in NYC in 2004, Moogfest – a festival dedicated to technology and electronic music – has become something of a North Carolina institution. Named after Robert Moog, the father of the electronic synthesizer, it has run in North Carolina since 2008, first in Asheville and now in Durham. Its proximity to Sanford means a single day or entire weekend is easy to attend.

Though usually associated with its musical acts, calling Moogfest a music festival is a bit misleading. The lineup is known for its diversity, covering speakers, public figures, futurists, inventors, and musicians. That’s not to say the music will disappoint, with acts as diverse as Animal Collective, Flying Lotus, and Kelela.

NC State Fair

If Moogfest makes you snooze or you want something more family friendly, the venerable North Carolina State Fair is an excellent way to celebrate Fall. The fairgrounds are enormous and offer the usual rides and culinary distractions, but the NC State Fair is distinguished by its focus on the culture of the Old North State. Best of all, it’s only 40 minutes from Sanford.

A typical year at the fair will feature exhibitions highlighting NC agriculture, a petting zoo, a flower garden, folk music, and a miniature farm for the kids. The concerts are also not to be missed, and focus primarily on NC musical talent.

Sanford Arts and Vine Festival
